Glee: After Britney/Brittany
By Glee TV Show Fansite at 30 September, 2010, 4:30 pm
Throwing Britney into the Glee mix seems to have been a good marketing tactic for the show. The Britney/Brittany episode attracted 13.51 million U.S. viewers which was up from the 12.45 million viewers from the season opener. The Britney episode came close to the number one most watched episode but it fell short of the 13.66 million viewers record held by “Hell-O” (season 1, episode 14).
What comes as a bit of a surprise is the Britney/Brittany episode easily beat out the Lady Gaga episode (aka Theatricality, season 1 episode 20) and the Madonna episode (The Power of Madonna, season 1 episode 15). Madonna came close with a 12.98 viewership but the Lady Gaga episode only brought in 11.49 million. Possibly the mistake there was not explicitly naming the episode after the mega star Gaga. Maybe Britney herself helped as she was hyped about the episode and even Tweeting about it.
The major drawback to this being the second most viewed is that in reality it wasn’t that good of a show. A large amount of viewers ended up watching one of the weaker Glee episodes to date. If this episode had been even half as strong as Preggers (season 1, episode 4) then many of those viewers may been hooked. As it stands I’m not sure if it will have a good long term positive impact on the series. The same goes for whether it will help Britney’s career at all.
Beyond that the upside was more of a focus on Brittany who is played by Heather Elizabeth Morris. Heather does an amazing job of the character Brittany who has some of the best one liners in the show. We were also lucky enough to see Heather’s amazing dancing skills that quite honestly put Britney’s dancing to shame. I’d say having more hot Brittany dancing in future episodes would be a good thing for Glee.
